Cartoonist: John Marshall
Biography: Once apon a time, Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts had a Junior School dedicated to 13-16 year-old kids who they considered had a latent talent in drawing and painting. Then the chief wizard in his wisdom decreed, the Junior School should be disbanded due to only art being taught, and little other education, it was feared they were churning out inspired idiots. I was one of these.
My first job at age 16 3/4 (weekly pay £3.5s) was working as a Studio Junior in the Euston area for a small company producing advertising mobiles. Since then I have worked in many other Advertising Companies/Studios producing designs, visuals, artwork, illustrations, cartoons and caricatures. In the 1970s I went freelance as a Visualiser, working in-house for Advertising Agencies, including Doorlands, Saatchi and Saatchi, and a WPP Agency called Perspectives Red Cell. I now work from home for a few favourite clients and I also paint portraits, landscapes, cartoons and caricatures.
